Britain.co.uk for sale – searchengine.co.uk too

Is the Uk domain market to take another leap forward this week? Shares and property is fallen in value, but domain prices have been rising dramatically in the past couple of years.

Edwin Hayward the guy behind memorabledomains is putting his domains up for public sale at InternetWorld in London. He has many great names including Britain.co.uk, Maps.co.uk, Mum.co.uk, Dad.co.uk, SearchEngine.co.uk and TechnicalSupport.co.uk

If anyone wants to meet the people behind the growth of the UK domain market they are meeting London this week. Unfortunately I can’t make it, but have fun everyone, but here are the details:

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/ad-london/34686-london-meet-april-30-2008-6pm.html

If your shares and property have fallen in value may be time to buy some domain names.

The 4 types of staff and what you do with them

Staff glorious staff….love them hate them:)

Someone much wiser than me told me all their staff fitting into 4 types of people and explained what he did with each type:

  • No skill and bad attitude – don’t employ then and if you do get rid of them
  • No skill but good attitude – employ then and train and nurture them
  • Good skill and good attitude – Keep them happy
  • Good skill but bad attitude – Poison, don’t employ then and if you do get rid of them

Maybe you could do that with your friends and family too:)

Kieron Donoghue Interview

The idea of these is to try and see what makes them tick. It’s not a completely serious interview, but sometimes there are some serious bits.

So a big thank you to Kieron Donoghue, one of the biggest affiliates in the UK, and astonishingly runs things from a bedroom from up in Sunderland, with no staff. Awesome stuff Kieron.

Oops wrong photo, sorry. This is Kieron looking prettier than when I met him.

So Kieron has been on this lovely planet for well over 30 years and was born under the same start sign as myself, Pisces, so thats a god start for him.

So here we go:

Name: Kieron Donoghue

Birthplace: Mackem Scum land formerly know as Sunderland

What do you do now: Full time affiliate marketeer (is that a real word?) running sites like ukoffer.com, bingo.org.uk and his personal blog at here.org.uk.

Height: Small

Weight: Large

Doug – Eat less and get heels

How much do you drink: Cocktails, champagne or Peroni

Doug – Sunderland boy you are turning into a ponce

Best Holiday: Probably a trip round Thailand a few years ago, lovely place and fantastic people.

Doug – I was asked not to mention lady boys by Keiron.

Fantasy:

Best advice about starting a business: I have 2 conflicting pieces of advice. 1, Have enough money in the bank as a safety net in case it all goes wrong. And 2, if you are convinced of your product/service then just go hell for leather and go get it, sell your house, your children and just do it!

People you dispise and why: Stupid people, I have a short tolerance for ignorance and stupidity I’m afraid.

Doug – Phew lucky we don’t spend much time together then

Person you admire and why: Richard Branson. He has a great passion for life which he carries over to his businesses. I love the way he takes on all comers and is never ever scared to take a risk.

Next Big thing online: Mobile. Only kidding as everyone says that. How about video? No, everyone says that too. How about good content sites?

Doug – have to agree on that Keiron as we are building large proper content sites now

Cheers Keiron for being so helpful and honest. I know people say people from Sunderland are not very bright or very nice, but I don’t think that applies to you.

Keiron’s blog is here

Doug liking Keiron too

Send me your resume because you have nothing original to say

Over the years I have employed loads of people and seen hundreds of CV’s. You know what I always look for in a CV?

  • Something odd
  • People who have failed lots of times
  • People who have travelled
  • People who have a strange hobby

My simple reasoning is that people who have done these things generally don’t follow the crowd and hence can be creative.

We are always looking for odd people and you don’t need a CV:)

How to get to the front page of DIGG – Part 4

I know, I know, you didn’t take maths in college but that is no reason not to peddle outrageous statistics on the internet in a bid to get to the front page of digg. Of course someone will do some real research to prove you wrong but by then you will already have earned your fifteen seconds on the front page of digg.

Juvenile instincts also come in handy on the quest to get to the front page of digg. So insult and inflame and people will comment, otherwise you play nice and they take their aggression elsewhere. And you lose your opportunity to get on digg’s front page.

From bedroom to major awards – affiliate to real player??

So from a bedroom and £2000 we have come along way in 5 years and tonight we are in the Travolution Awards and down to the last 4 for the prize of the best car hire website in the UK.

Our competition is:

  • NationalCar.co.uk
  • Budget.co.uk
  • CarRentals.co.uk
  • HolidayAutos.co.uk

Now that is awesome considering each of our competitors are business’s backed by Multi Billion pound companies. We have moved out a bedroom but still operate from a small university campus.

So don’t think that being an affiliate in a bedroom is the limit of what you can be.
