Now this makes life interesting for anyone who owns a comparator business, like ourselves.

Does it now mean that Google have now legitimised our business models and we should just wait for the companies who have large traffic but don’t wish to run comparators to knock on our doors to buy us or use our feeds?

Also how does this effect Google and it’s core ppc business. The beauty of ppc is that the price gets driven up to a point that merchants make little cash, and in many cases loose money….either by being stupid or wanting branding. PPC in some cases also comes out of a companies marketing budget. CPA models such as many comparators use comes out of a companies sales channel and hence is tracked for profit.

Anyone know how google are charging?

Looks like all those Americans can come and spend their lovely dollars now buying .co.uk domain names.

On 25 June the current registrant transfer process will become a paperless online version.

The old system relied on the completion of transfer forms and copies of suitable identification. The new system is based entirely online and can generally be completed in a matter of minutes.

This new online service will be launched on 25 June and will cost £10 plus VAT, a qualifying bulk transfer will also be charged at £10 plus VAT.

Here is what Lyndon said originally before the noise:

None of it is true, it’s a completely made up yarn. How do I know? I wrote it. It’s what I do for a living. I write content for websites which creates a buzz and hopefully gets links and people to the intended target.

The story was specifically crafted to appeal to the online crowd and included a number of “hot buttons” which resonated with people of a certain mindset.

Pandering to prejudices? Absolutely.

The intention was to create something so unbelievably magnetic that people had to pass it on and tell others in the form of linking to it, sticking it on their TV show, printing it up, and chatting about it on a radio show.

Did I know the story was going to be this big? No of course not, but it is what I aim for. Whether or not a piece of content goes viral is not up to me. The factors which decided the success of such a thing are too numerous to quantify and compute.

Monk needs some help

We pass work out all over the world and today I got an email from one of the guys we deal with in Asia related to a friend of his who is a monk in Indian and would love some financial help.

In years of dealing with these guys they have always been honourable and fair, hence I believe 100% this is genuine. We sent him some and any small amounts would be appreciated.

Great holiday resorts and Facebook have one thing in common; they are hard to leave. But unlike the former where it’s the beauty of the place that makes one just want to stay on, with Facebook it’s the policy that forces you.

With Facebook, users found it hard deactivating themselves because it was a complex and lengthy process. And it got even trickier from there. Deactivation did not mean deletion and with deactivation Facebook retained one’s information on the premise that one could entertain second thoughts and decide to return! This is highly suspicious considering that once someone has made a decision to opt out of a service they ought to be released with all their belongings. One wonders what Facebook was thinking assuming all its users were fickle-minded people whose minds were never made up. It is actually insulting when you think about it.

Then when you consider the reasons that might push you to close your account and Facebook still wants to keep your information, you get even madder. For instance in its early years the website was only for college students and many of them might have posted information that would not be tolerated outside their college life. So you get someone who has graduated and now in their job hunt they realise that the information on their Facebook could jeopardise their chances of getting a job. So they want to delete that information but Facebook still wants to keep it! I am surprised that no one has gone to court to sue the social networking site for ruining their life, because such a thing is potentially disastrous.
While with other websites and social networking sites one’s information can be removed with just a single click of the mouse, with Facebook one previously had to go through a lengthy process which in most cases was very manual and time consuming.

While such a policy was perfectly legal in the United States, in the European Union it could have been deemed unlawful. (Which raises questions about the qualifications of the people at the legal department of Facebook!). This is because for instance in the United Kingdom, the laws in question state that firms should not hold information for periods longer than is appropriate which is what Facebook was doing with its deactivation policy, rather than complete removal. In this regard users of the social networking site in the United Kingdom have complained to the relevant authorities and the social networking site is being investigated.

In light of the above, the social networking site has changed its tune and now lets users opt out of the service and have all their information deleted with just one email request. But still that is not enough. What many don’t know (especially for those who choose to retain their information with the site) is that Facebook can conduct data mining from newspapers, blogs, IMs etc about you and then have it added to your profile! It’s like the secret police who in this case are trailing your electronic footprints and then contacting the headquarters to report on you! This is not a joke and one will find this in Facebook’s privacy policy which is available on the site. All this translates to mean that big brother is not only watching you but is also data mining you!

Europe will be over run – we better be nice to some people

Population growth in Europe has stopped. Population growth in the 25 countries surrounding Europe is exploding.

Today the population of Europe is 451 million, the population of the 25 countries surrounding Europe is 587 million

In 2050 the populations are predicted to be, Europe 401 million, 25 surrounding countries 1298 million.

Looks like we better start being nice to some people, as poor and starving people can be very resilient. Be good idea to start being nice now.

Affiliates have got to be stupid

If you are an affiliate, how can you even do business with a network or merchant who won’t tell you what the cookie rules are. Business wise that is just pure stupidity and you deserve what you get.

Networks and merchants don’t want to show you as that data is worth fortune to them. But most merchants run DART or ATLAS and both of these systems have sophisticated cookie tracking systems and can do mass analysis. I believe most of the networks have similar systems too.

You would not buy a car without knowing as much about the car as possible, so why do it with merchants and networks. Cause you are stupid?

We actually do very little “normal” affiliacy now, most of our business goes via white labels, where we own the customer, the site and the domains. If we fall out with a merchant we can change the backend.

But I have an American friend who takes no notice of the deal he send his traffic to who pays the most……shaft him and his stats say you are paying him less per visitor and drops you and promotes your competitor.
