Matt Wood - affiliates4u and existem
Matt Wood

established and manages the major affiliates network forum, www.affiliates4u.com, and also runs affiliate marketing company Existem from their Bristol office.

Matt worked in an abbatoir and did loads of useless jobs, no change there then:)
He was doing some dodgdy seo and ppc stuff, it is alleged…….and then setup Affiliates4U to create a community for people in the Affiliate and online marketing sectors. So now he moderates lots of whingers.
Matt established Existem Ltd in early 2003, to be the holding company for his variety of seo, ppc and cashback sites. He then setup A4UExpo.com, which runs the major UK affiliate expo.
Matt is married and he enjoys alcohol, eating, playing golf & watching Formula 1. He travels widely and is particularly fond of Las Vegas. He also spent sometime teaching in Asia.
Satish Jayakumar - AdJug
Satish is a a big cheese at (and joint founder of) AdJug.

He has several years experience in online publishing and is an authority on contextual online advertising…..wow did I say that:) He can sell anything to anybody….no coal for me mate:

Some official blurby stuff now:
AdJug is an online advertising marketplace where advertisers and publishers buy and
sell ad space directly. Satish has a BA(Hons) in Business Studies from Robert Gordon University
(Aberdeen), and started work as a sales manager for Mitsubishi Electric in their
Space & Satellite Systems division….now I did not know that
In 2000, Satish was a co-founder of Espotting.com - with only a small number of shares though…shame. He was was responsible for the development and launch of Europe’s first PPC syndication platform……..in my humble opinion he created that business which grew espotting massively. Some may say he helped some google spammers, but not me.
Moving on from Espotting, Satish founded Nixxie.com in 2004. Nixxie was the UK’s first contextual advertising platform….basically they sold Yahoo ppc datafeeds, because Yahoo were too hopeless to do it themselves. He took the company from 1 to 12 employees and created a turnover of £15 million within three years of launch.
Post-Nixxie, Satish became Director of Strategy (Europe) for MIVA, (Espotting in another name). In 2007, Satish left MIVA to create AdJug, with Michael Stephanblome, the ex Md of Gumtree.
He has been listed in the UK’s top 30 young entrepreneurs by ‘Growing Business’
magazine and has also been featured in the Courvoisier Future 500…..the what magazine?
He lives in London with his partner, and his interests include Golf, drinking, talking,
talking, talking, talking about golf and drinking - but not reading.
His Blog can be found at http://carnelite.blogspot.com/
AdJug can be found at http://www.adjug.com
Doug still does not understand what Satish does:)

Does anyone have any voucher codes - don’t be stupid
I don’t even bother looking on those sites ranked in google any more as they have no codes…….guys you are devising a business model that no one likes.
Users get bored and don’t use you again, I know some sites are decent but everyone gets tarred with the same brush.
I just go to the money saving expert type sites nowadays.
Doug is tight

Do you feel you are sucessful? Explain? yes, When I was younger I’ve been tens of thousands in debt, worked for weeks without days off and struggled for about 15 years, and now I’m somewhat better off I still haven’t forgotten the dark times so I can appreciate that I get to spend as much time with my daughter and other family as I wish, I can travel anywhere in the world when and with whom I choose and stay in quality hotels for as long as I want, I could give up working tomrorow and not worry about how I’d manage, I now choose to do what I do workwise, I won’t kiss ass or be two faced just to get work as I don’t have to do it yet so many people don’t have choices in life so I am mindful of those that I have and feel succesful as a result of having the level of choices available to me.
What motivates you to go to work? problem solving, I used to love chess as there’s always a problem to solve, I have clients who pay me to turn in and manage PPC for them, the constant battle is with google who are only too happy to throw up problems to solve
What are you good at? work and social work.. finding new angles to market something that may have been around for ages, Socially I’m very chatty and love to have fun
What would you like to be good at socially it be kung fu and tantric sex, for work it’d be planning projects and seeing them to completion, I’ve usually hopped ahead to the next project by then
What are you hopeless at? planning, delegation, project management and long term relationships
Who is your hero? hmmm “hero” is a bit cheesy but for work I’d say I admire Richard Branson, he’s a guy that always tries hard to do the business, give a decent deal and he usually aims to give a little back and pay something forward for the future, whilst still having fun … Socially I’d say it was my Dad, he had cancer, massive operations and had years of uncertain times yet never lost his sense of humour and zest for life, he died last year unexpectedly after a short illness but was positive to the end….sorry
Have you any pets, what are they are whats their names? zero.. They aren’t condusive to last minute weekends and weeks away however I like terriers and shall buy one that can bark in spanish eventually
Have you ever been the victim of unrequited love, who? yeah, A friend from childhood made a move a few years back, was a total shock and didn’t work out for her.….lucky girl

How many hours of TV do you watch? I actively only watch about 10 hours per week, it’s on in the background but I’m rarely just watching it without doing something else
Who is no longer your friend and why? I don’t fall out with many people, although one is in a holding pattern for now as he’s a narcissistic twat with zero respect or empathy for others, servere integrity issues and a penchant for lying though his teeth, on an advisory note the best way to get rid of anyone is lend them money, you rarely hear from any “mate” you’ve loaned money….do I know him?
How often do you have sex? a hell of a lot more often than I go to the gym….once every 10 weeks, how much does it cost?
Are you on a diet, should you be? I’m diabetic and I went vegetarian about 9 months ago but just didn’t feel well so am back on white meats and low fat….beer and curry not good idea

Do you die your hair? nope, used to have blonde streaks when it was flopping in my eyes many years ago…..don’t tell me that
If you could be anyone in the world who would it be? Me aged 18 again, things would be so very different in quite a few ways…join the club mate, youth is wasted on the young they say…maybe grow your hair:

BUSINESS
Companies you love and why? Virgin Atlantic as it’s a quality service from booking online to getting showered back at heathrow, BMW.. Quality cars, Apple as everything is pure design gold, works everytime and is great value for the features it offers regardless of product, ….Google as they do no evil.. Ok kidding on the last one
Person you admire and why? Branson for reasons as mentioned above
Person you despise and why? that’s a strong word I don’t despise anyone.. Although there is one US based brand bidder I’d like to see sprayed in female gorilla urine and thrown into the male enclosure after they’ve just been shown some hardcore primate porn as he just totally flouts the T&C’s and has done so for years yet the networks he works with turn a blind eye….who?
What worries you the most about work? Nothing.. I’m my own boss, I see the constant evolution of the internet as an ever changing landscape of oppotuinities so I don’t fear change
Best advice about starting a business? stay small or get big as being inbetween is like wading in treacle, build something of intrinsic value, a business that can run without YOU being in it 100% of the time and so can be more easily sold. To paraphrase Robert Kiyosaki ..aka rich dad poor dad, “become the pipeline not the bucket carrier”
Best advice about starting a business with someone else? do it as a last resort, try and ensure you have the voting decision/majority share and only do it if you know them exceptionally well, it’s supposed to halve the work BUT could turn into twice the work for half the money and four times the hassle so make sure there’s a worst case scenario plan in place and a mutual agreement on paper regarding it, most of us are revenue whores so it’s probably just the price that’s got to be right before the bail point when the screw over happens so find someone with a higher price than yours.
Where do you put all your money? I spend lots, No point being the richest guy in the graveyeard, I travel widely as that’s a personal investment in itself, I have good financial advisers who invest in a few different sectors and vehicles over a number of differing timescales so the risk is well spread, I pay into a good pension for myself and already have had one running for my 9 year old daughter for a few years now, I figure by the time I’ve blown all my cash on villas, plastic surgery and ferraris, and she’s paid the death duty she’ll need a good pension to fall back on.
What would you do if you weren’t doing what you are doing now? if I hadn’t got into the internet I’d probably be doing something else self employed, as I’ve always been looking for a way to make my own money, I’d probably be doing something import export or franchise related…american monkey politician???

ONLINE
Where do you buys links from I don’t buy links.. I buy clicks……….
Should Matt Cutts shave off his beard yeah and superglue all the hair onto the chuckle brothers (Sergy and Larry) as ww2 fighter ace moustaches

How much money did you make last year Six figures.. But sadly not several million like you Doug ;)…I must have lost it then)

Who is the best looking person in the industry Is? or thinks they are ?? Lol ok for Male.. It’s got to be the Canada’s answer to will farrel, non other than mr Tyson “hey how you doin” Pearcey !?

.. Female.. Hmmm this is harder.. I can’t say as anyone stands out, there are so many nice ladies, ok media fembots, and they are mostly bland and vacuous so I’ll say PASS on that one however ladies should feel free to send pics in FHM stylie for my consideration……..
What’s the next big thing? The Mobile Web.. ! .. Ok maybe not.. Seems to have been the standard answer for 06 and 07.. Lol… I have no clue what the next big thing is, probably 150% cashback voucher code ISP’s site
Cheers Shane a pleasure as always.

Went to Swansea in my teenage years. The Mumbles is amazing in the summer, as are the Welsh throughout the year….you are kidding aren’t you????

Poland in the winter - not much to cheer you up when it’s minus 15 and you don’t drink vodka

To go back to 1986, be in Mexico and watch the second best World Cup of all time live… and then rewind the clock 16 years further back to watch Pele, Jairzinho et al produce their magic in the same country

Seven things to do before you die are:
- Complete two novels I started in the mid-1990s to my satisfaction (not as easy as I am not satisfied with 99% of my writing)

When did you loose your virginity?
Where did you loose your virginity?
No comment I said!
How much did it cost for you to loose your virginity?
I really can’t comment!
Do you wax? I shave, if that counts
When did you last change your underwear? This morning
What worries you the most in general?
I am the world’s worst worrier: I worry about everything ranging from whether I should have used a semi-colon instead of a colon in an article I wrote a few days previously to poverty in Zimbabwe to the seals that are being battered in the culling season in Canada
Football/Rugby/Wanker? Football

What type of car do you have? No car
Where do live With who? I live with Marilyn (the PC)
Where do you wish you lived? Jerusalem
Who do you wish you lived with?
I’d like to live with a wife and two daughters who will be called Anne-Marie and Marijke. I often fantasize about throwing Marilyn out of the window.
Have you been on an airplane Was it good?
Yes, I have flown abroad. Have been generally safe journeys, except once when I was flying over the Alps to Italy
What would you do with 100 million?
I’d give £95 million away to friends and family and the world’s poor and suffering people. The remaining £5 million would be more than enough for me to life off ’til my last breath
Whats the most unethical thing you have done?
Belonged to a brand name bidding group!
Have you been in jail? No
How many business’s have you had What dd they do?
I have had several businesses since I was a teenager. I have done everything from programme and sell my own games for the Commodore 64 right through having a copywriting business to running my own online bookstore
What did you want to do when you left school?
I wanted to write. The hunger hasn’t left me and perhaps only other writers would understand that I’d rather forgo food than not be able to write.
Are you dyslexic? No
Are you left handed? No
Do you use face cream? No
Have you tatoos? No
Have you any body piercing Where? No
Do you feel you are sucessful Explain?
On an entrepreneurial and practical level, yes, I am fortunate enough to probably be the most successful person in the school of 1400-odd students I attended. For example, in terms of accommodation, I have struggled to move from being homeless when I first moved to London 16 years ago to residing for nine years in one of the most decrepit and dangerous council estates in the city, to now living in one of the most desirable locations in the capital where most of the residents are millionaires. But such achievements are not of paramount significance to me. I have been a failure in terms of spiritual, political, intellectual and artistic pursuits, and in terms of not having done as much for the unfortunate as I could have. That is my next goal
What motivates you to go to work?
The biggest satisfaction I get is helping new affiliates and Account Managers to get started in the game. I get tremendous pleasure teaching them. My delight is when their hard work pays off and terms like ‘eCPM’ and ‘CPM-CPL hybrid’ begin to trip effortlessly off their tongues
What are you good at, work and social?
I’m not very good at most things. I used to be an OK spin bowler… I once got a Pakistani international batsman out in my first ball.
What would you like to be good at? I’d like to be a better writer
What are you hopeless at?
I wouldn’t know where to start! I’m a lousy drawer and I can’t play a single musical instrument, not even a triangle
Who is your hero? Jesus (peace be upon him)
Have you any pets, what are they are whats their names? None
Have you ever been the victim of unrequited love, who?
My closest friends know I have been in love with a lovely lass in affiliate marketing for years! Only problem is she is married, so I don’t do anything about it
How many hours of TV do you watch?
After years of not having a TV, I finally bought one because my guests kept complaining. I watch about two hours a week. Repeats of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ on UK TV Gold keep me busy when I’m not watching BBC News 24 or BBC 4
How often do you have sex?
It’s not something I have the time for, alas
Are you on a diet, should you be?
I’m on the ‘Running an Online Marketing Agency Plan’. It means you are so busy with your work that you don’t have the time to eat, and you have to whizz around London rushing to clients’ offices every day; as a result it keeps you slim. I only managed to have my first bite to eat since breakfast at 7pm today, which is not unusual
Do you have a hat, what colour is it?
I have a gangsta movie hat which one of our clients, Warner Bros., sent me a few years ago. I haven’t gotten around to buying another hat, so I throw it on when it’s raining and it makes my friends laugh as it doesn’t go with my formal attire
Try this one:
What was the last book you read?
Jane Austen’s Persuasion, for about the sixth time. The text is packed with so many layers of meaning that I discover new things each and every time
Do you die your hair?
I sometimes have it highlighted with a bit of brown or red…stop it
If you could be anyone in the world who would it be?
The Brazilian footballer Kaká. His incredible on-the-field skills are eclipsed by the benevolant and humble person he is off the field.
Companies you love and why?
I would have to say I admire Oxfam if you don’t mind me classifying them as a ‘company’
Person you admire and why?
If I could mention a group of people, it would be all the Account and Affiliate Managers in online marketing who work under tremendous pressure and get flak from all sides: affiliates, advertisers and their bosses. Unlike affiliates they generally do not have the freedom to give their side of the story in forums and blogs
Person you dispise and why?
People who waste their money on flashy cars and five star hotels while 25,000 people starve to death every single day…….affiliates take note
What worries you the most about work?
Not doing the best for my clients, my merchants and my affiliates
Best advice about starting a business?
Don’t. Whenever friends ask me about starting their own business, I advise them against it. It’s easier to do a 9am-5pm Monday-Friday job than the 9am-9pm Monday-Sunday many entrepreneurs do
Best advice about starting a business with someone else?
I’d advise against it as it usually ends acrimoniously.
Where do you put all your money?
I have always reinvested it into expanding the business, acquiring the best staff and building the most formidable infrastructure
What would you do if you weren’t doing what you are doing now?
Like I said, I’m not very good at most things, so it’d be a real problem. I would have loved to have been a primary school teacher
Where do you buys links from?
Our Google Adwords bill almost brings tears to my eyes, but we probably spend a lower percentage of our ad spend on Google than most other PPCers. We have burned tens of thousands of quid on many of the smaller and niche search engines. Most have been a waste, but we have discovered two or three gems
Should Matt Cutts shave off his beard?
That question keeps me awake at night!
How much money did you make last year? Six figures
Who paid you the most?
We generated over £6 million in sales for a high street retailer, so made a fair whack in affiliate commission. Would have made more, but they capped us two months before the end of the year as they had a fixed budget for affiliate marketing and it had been used up, which was incredibly frustrating!
Who is the best looking person in the industry?
The stunner in affiliate marketing who I have been mesmerised by for three years
What’s the next big thing?
I don’t welcome it, but the big will get bigger, whether it is networks, advertisers or publishers, and the smaller players will gradually be driven out of the market
Buy.at People - Kevin Cornils , Tyson Pearcey, Steve Brown, Malcolm Cowley
Whatver you think about Buy.at you can’t ignore their growth. So here is a little overview of some of the people who have contributed to it. Sorry Warrick, Chris, Chris, Paul etc etc…maybe do yours later:)
So now a serious post:) Sorry if some of the details are not quite correct
Background
Buy.at is part of the Advertising.com business within AOL’s Platform A and is one the leading UK specialist affiliate marketing networks.
Clients include leading UK brands such as John Lewis, Lloyds TSB, HMV, Littlewoods, M&S, Play.com, 3 mobile, the AA, Sky, T-mobile and Virgin Media.
Following a move into the US, TicketMaster was their first big catch.
With offices in London, Newcastle and the US, the business has grown very quickly from 25 staff to 70+, with plans to expand into European markets as well.
This is just a quick outline at 4 of the key figures behind Buy.at (note that recent changes at the top mean that Buy.at have lost founders Steve Brown and Malcolm Cowley’s services).
Steve Brown (Chief Operating Officer)
Steve was a joint founder of Buy.at with original memeber being he brother Dave, Malcolm Cowley and Paul Fellos. He led the firm until 2006 when Kevin Cornils took over the reins following an equity investment by DFJ Esprit Capital.
Steven’s impressive academic record includes 2 Physics degrees, a B.Sc. from the University of Bristol and a Ph.D from Liverpool, which led to work as a Physicist at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
A change of direction resulted in Steve’s qualification as a Chartered Accountant and a five year stint at KPMG.
Steve is married, lives in Reading and is a keen hockey player.
Malcolm Cowley (Director, Strategic Accounts)
Malcolm was one of the founders of the Buy.at, with Steve Brown and has played a significant role as Director of Strategic Accounts, acquiring new business and working with key clients.
Over a period of a few years, he delivered over 1/2 of the company’s turnover and also provided on-going consultancy to buy.at’s largest blue chip clients.
Malcolm moved down to London from Newcastle in 2006, and then played a key role in Buy.at’s move into the United States in 2007. At that time he moved full-time to New York.
As an ambassador both for Buy.at and for the affiliate marketing industry as a whole, Malcolm can be found at key industry events such as Affiliate Summit, conducting interviews on webmaster radio and generally being active within the community.
Kevin Cornils (Chief Executive)
Kevin joined buy.at as Chief Executive, taking over leadership role from Steve Brown, in August 2006 following a large equity investment from DFJ Esprit Capital.
He previously worked as Managing Director (Europe) at Match.com - a subsidiary of Interactive Corp, one of the world’s major e-commerce companies. At Match.com, Kevin led the development of the business to become a market leader in Europe in the online personal ads/match-making arena.
At buy.at, Kevin’s main focus is to build on the previous success of the company and develop continued growth in online sales for Buy.at’s clients.
Kevin is also a double degree holder - an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelors degree in International Economics from Georgetown University.
Kevin is based in London where he lives with his wife and daughter.
Tyson Pearcey (Director, Business Development)
Tyson also joined buy.at in 2006, as Director of Business Development. Tyson’s focus is to drive the company’s growth by forming and strengthening relationships with advertisers and affiliates, and in helping to build merchant recruitment.
Prior to 2006, Tyson had gained significant experience within the affiliate industry, having co-founded OMG affiliate network and Affiliate Marketing UK Ltd. He has also previously worked for Bell Canada where he helped develop various web and cost-per-click solutions.
Tyson is a massive fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and can also be occasionally found prowling around the Acorn Domains forums.
Dave Naylor David Naylor or DaveN??? What’s his name?
David Naylor is a well known figure in the SEO world, often known just as ‘DaveN’. He has been involved in SEO for over 10 years. Probably coming from Ripon met he had to hide indoors and drink beer:

He has over the years tried to rank in Google for the word “Nice SEO” but alas most people try to get him to rank for nasty seo or fat seo.
Anyway whilst working as a database programmer/IT manager in the late 1990’s David was asked to create the company’s Intranet. Finding that he liked this kind of work, he changed jobs and moved to a small ISP to concentrate on Web design work.
Taking an interest in the SEO side of the business was a logical progression for David, at a time when there was little focus on that aspect of Web development and promotion. With a natural talent for SEO, and with a growing track record in site promotion, David eventually took ownership of the ISP, Broco Internet.
David and his wife Becky still own Bronco, based in Ripon, North Yorkshire. SEO remains an important part of the services offered by the company.
Dave used to be a nasty person in googles eyes, even though he is a mate of Matt Cutts. Now Dave only does nasty stuff to learn and experiment……

He consults for a wide range of online businesses from corporations to off-shore pharmaceutical companies and retailers. His instinct for SEO and feel for what will work allows him to tailor make techniques and approaches that are suited for each client.
A strong desire for the best results drives him to constantly develop and refine optimisation techniques. Combined with a natural ‘eye’ for spotting algorithmic changes and visitor trends before other SEO’s, David has established a reputation as one of the best SEO’s in the world.
David continues to give back to the SEO community, being a regular contributor on Forums and within the SEO community. His own blog attracts a large global audience and he is well known for a down to earth approach on all SEO matters. David also hosts his own digital radio show. He also more importantly has anability to drink a huge amount of beer.
Doug astounded by Dave’s drinking and how cheap he is to do good seo:)
Duncan Horton - master skateboarder
Duncan is a sexy bloke:
Duncan Horton is Chief Executive of online classifieds business Freeads.co.uk, working alongside his long time lover Stuart Parish…….only kidding:)
The pair worked together at Holiday Autos, the noddy car hire dealer:)), prior to that company being acquired by travel e-tailer, LastMinute.com in 2003.
Following merging of the businesses, Horton assumed responsibility for LastMinute’s portfolio of 16 core web sites, overseeing a migration to a single platform in an exercise costing over 15 million GBP.
During their time together at LastMinute Horton and Parish achieved considerable benefits through consolidation and by making the advertising and search approach much more efficient. This resulted in major improvement in economies of spend, and great paid search results, through making the business re-focus on its main objectives and what it was actually delivering to websites.
Following a period of managerial changes at LastMinute, Horton and Parish moved on in 2007,……peeded off were we boys???? Taking over control of the then 6 years old Freeads brand. A major backer of Freeads is Clive Jacobs, founder of car hire giant Holiday Autos, who bought a major stake in the business in early 2007.
FreeAds had established a reasonable user base, together with a largely untapped mailing list of somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 names, and the team have since set about revitalising the site. Utilising the simple concept of FreeAds the site has seen consistent growth in terms of market share and visitors (Unique visitors were 1.3 million in OCtober 2007). Recent deals to promote cross-branding and the establishment of regional and international markets continue to raise the FreeAds brand.
FreeAds is the largest independent UK classifieds site, is based in Windsor, and according to their Website, hosts over 80,000 unique ads each day. Duncan spends a lot of time on his Blackberry…………….

Duncan Jennings - eConversions
Duncan started life in Newcastle…good start:) So another blood Geordie…dam we are good at this industry. Here is is house:)

He started Web development at the age of 17, and continued to build sites for fun while studying Management at Leeds University. …saddo.

Duncan, Max and Daniel…Daniel I believe owns part of Welovelocal, sorry Daniel couldn’t find your life:)
As he began to develop a more business-like approach to Web development, together with an entrepreneurial flair, Duncan saw potential in income arising from placing affiliate adverts on ‘niche’ Websites. Early success in the travel sector was promising but limited by the number and breadth of sites that he could efficiently develop and host. …plus some of his sites got thoroughly whacked by Google.
With the rise of Google Adwords and Adsense, Dunc identified early on an opportunity to move away from specific Website development to focus on purchasing traffic and driving visitors direct to the advertiser. This removed a bottleneck from his process and allowed him to concentrate his efforts on identifying markets, affiliates and on effective positioning and marketing of campaigns.
From this base, Duncan established and sold a number of Web businesses. He flogged a domain registration business when the prices of domains dropped to give away prices. In 2003 he founded eConversions with his brother Max Jennings and Richard Foister, to target a rapidly expanding UK affiliate market. Since that time, they have moved successfully into the worldwide market, promoting affiliate networks and major Blue Chip across a number of language markets.
As well as paid search, eConversions is trying to develop specific sites to attract and drive traffic to merchants. In 2007 they sold www.travel-library.com to expedia for an undisclosed amount, but probably between 7 and 8 figues. £££££££££. The site was simply an adsense “spam” site, but with user generate content, it’s traffic was growing massively and expedia with their hat on, “we have not got a clue” decided to buy it and put some tripadvisor ads on it.
They then sold a part share of www.welovelocal.com to GCap, the largest commercial radio network in the UK with over forty radio stations including Capital 95.8, XFM and Classic FM. Basically GCap had no idea what to do about this stuff online, so they thought they would bung Dunc and the boys some cash and then plug the site on the radio. Great respect to the GCap lot as they partnered with some smart guys for not a lot of cash….you should have asked for more:)
eConversions now employs more than 20 people from their thin long London office up some old stairs, with some work probably outsourced to some indians. They won 2 awards in the 2007 A4U Affiliate awards and one award at the 2008 awards, but they decided to goto Las Vegas instead of getting their reward….now thats when you get cocky you can do that. Duncan has featured in industry and mainstream press worldwide.
He is one of the brightest and nicest guys I know and will one day have hundreds on millions in cash and then become a politician, so he can say lots but say little.

That is assuming that the stress does not get him first.
Doug still broke
