Election Confusion

Ahhhhhhh

Even though I have setup numerous business’s over the years I have always been a political lefty. Must be due to my childhood in the North East and my school with an Ofsted score of 25.

I have a simple belief that everyone has a right to education and health and hence a society that tried to look after the underpriveledged was good, even though tons of people abused the system. It was the principle of the matter.

So now an election looms and what do I do??

Labour

  1. seemed to have messed quite  bit up
  2. having a business with all the risks, the government seem to want to punish me if I am profitable

Conservative

  1. seem unable to add up, they reckon they can cut taxes and not reduce services
  2. historically filled with a lot of money grabbers
  3. slimey feelings….
  4. always feels that we will end up with a split society

Liberals

  1. Their treasurer has a brain
  2. Alas until proportional representation arrives they stand no chance of getting elected

Also I now live in a solid conservative seat.

So what do I do??

Uswitch the real price they paid – £7 million:)

Scripps who sold Uswitch to Mr Hutchinsons Forward3d ( previously Traffic Broker) have disclosed that Forward3d paid US$10.3  million for it or roughly £7 million.

That’s some haggle Neil when Scripps paid £210 million for it in 2006.

Mind you Uswitch figures for 2009 were not very good with a turnover of US$22 million and losses of US$4.1.

But still seems like a bargain to me:) Get rid of loads of the staff, automate the stuff and then run it efficiently. But then I am teaching you how to suck eggs.

mobilephones.co.uk not sold

Looks like some funnies have happened and the sale is not happening.

Angie Barrows has made it public that she was the winning bidder and that the sale is now in dispute, here is her statement:

Dear all

I am the mystery buyer of MobilePhones.co.uk which has caused such a stir in a recent Sedo auction – Angie Barrow of ANY-Web Ltd.
My portfolio of over 15000 .co.uk village domain names for my www.ANY-Village.co.uk project has been the subject of previous threads on Acorn, and many here know me.

I originally wanted to lift the veil on my identity with a fanfare – joyously announcing how delighted I was with my purchase of MobilePhones.co.uk and what a bargain I had got. In a few days – just before everybody would have found out anyway (I am dreadful at keeping secrets).

Now circumstances have arisen which are forcing me to reveal myself a bit earlier.

I am an unlikely buyer of big ticket domain names.
MobilePhones.co.uk is my first such purchase – what a gem, and what an amazing name to have in my portfolio.
It took a lot of courage and thinking through the long-term investment potential of this name for me to take this step.
Both a no-brainer and yet a big deal for me. Definitely out of my comfort zone.
You should have heard the yelps of delight in my house when I got the name! I was delirious.

So I want to share with you the news that I have just been informed by Sedo that the seller is disputing the auction and claims the name had not been authorised to be sold. I don’t know the precise circumstances yet but will find out.

Naturally I am distraught and will dispute this. I am not the only one thinking that I got the name at a bargain price – even the seller thinks so too!

There will be lots of ramifications about this transaction and I am sure that Sedo will be doing their best to sort out all the legal issues.

Sedo are a great marketplace for our domains and are doing so much to help all of us domainers sell our names. So please no Sedo-bashing.
But this is about the integrity of our marketplace and the confidence with which we make purchases and sales.

I was wondering what your views are regarding aborted auctions on Sedo and other auction sites and on non-performance of domain transfers.
Are there any legal precedents out there?

I will keep you posted about developments with MobilePhones.co.uk

Yours from a stunned and gutted
Angie

We bought some more domains – I am bored:)

Not big ones but some interesting ones to allow me to play, whilst the boys go and build the car hire and discount voucher codes business’s. Looking at the growth of both of them they don’t need me to help them any more:)

So here we go, interesting mixed bunch, but not as expensive as others I have bought.

These could all be official sites:

www.financialadvisors.org.uk I am a sucker for domains that mean something:)

www.gas.org.uk – not a clue what to do with this

www.government.org.uk an interesting domains

www.lotteries.org.uk maybe the government one matches with this one

www.publictransport.co.uk no traffic but everyone knows what it means:)

www.publicliability.org.uk as the UK becomes a more stupid legal world then sure these search terms will increase

www.sharedealing.org.uk one for the stock exchange

These ones are obviously much more commercial, but I may need some staff to help me and turn them into real sites as alas I still can’t write any code

www.meals.co.uk just a nice name

www.package-holidays.com I do like this one a lot

www.payday-loans.co.uk we have never done any finance stuff but I thought this has to be interesting

Some that fit being commercial even though they are .org.uk’s

www.fishing-rods.org.uk I hate fishing as I was born in a fishing port and hated the smell

www.fly.org.uk a nice one to match www.fly.co.uk

www.handles.org.uk and www.doors.org.uk – a strange pair

And 3 others that I have no idea what to do with:

www.pedicurist.co.uk if you have dodgy feet:)

www.silly.co.uk got to laugh at that one:):):) ha ha ha

www.slogan.co.uk

Obviously if anyone wants to buy these then feel free to ping me

MyVoucherCodes is loosing its top spot??

Is this the last year for Mark Pearosn to have his own way?

Seems some people proper companies are rapidly catching him:

  • www.moneysupermarket.com – ok a white label of MVC but he ain’t keeping much of that money and will be on penalties and sla’s to keep this site live.

Checkout the growth of all these in hitwise.

Time to clean up the act Mark or start being nice to people because simply you aren’t going to have all that traffic to yourself any more:) So being a bully boy to merchants may become not as easy as you loose some visitors.
