Closed brand bidding groups – why do they exist

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Answer: No idea

The more I think about this the more it feels not right. I feel these groups effectively steal the sale from content affiliates or generic bidding affiliates. If a merchant is going to allow brand bidding them please make it open to everyone.

My view now is quite simple, if a merchant has a “closed brand bidding group” then I would like to know about it before I do any business with you as a merchant. I dont want to be sending you traffic that later may be stolen by another affiliate.

I have asked Commission Junction, Tradedoubler, Affiliate Future and Buy.at to tell me the status of each of their merchants. I choose these networks as I have relationships with them, but please feel free to ask any networks you have an send me the list.

This is the letter I have send to the networks:

So can you please tell me which of your merchants are doing this.

So you are aware I am going to publish the info on my blog and share it with many of the other uk affiliate blog owners.

I am also going to make it public that I have asked you.

Regards
