When I cancelled my hosting account with GoDaddy.com I asked for my details to be expunged from their system and was told that they weren't allowed to do so. If they were UK sites then it would fall under the Data Protection Act clause that states "to keep the data only for the time for which the information is necessary" but not so in the US.
