Making more sales – or getting visitors to do what you want

Friday, August 15th, 2008

As some people know we do some fun playing with conversion rates and are constantly playing with ideas.

Well how about this?

  1. Most people in the world are one of 8 character types and depending on browser info, operating system, mouse movements and clicks, time of day, day of week, they can be categorised as one of these types.
  2. Depends on what type of person they are they should be shown a different page or set of options that appeal to them as an individual…ie some people like to see other peoples reviews, some like to make decisions based on facts, some like to just get to the buy as quickly as possible.
  3. So people should be shown what appeals to them and this should be automatic.
  4. Hence you can show the correct page to the correct person and make them do whatever you want.

Interested to know more then fill in the contact form, email me or fill in the comment form below and I can tell you more as I have full documents:)

Totally agree but how does a browser identify what type of person you are? Before you say that a visitor would need to add some details – no thanks!

    Easily identifable.

When you arrive on the site we already know:

    browser type
    operating sytem
    time of day
    day of week
    ip
how long it takes you to make a decision

Magically from that data we can almost work out what type of profile person you are.

The science of profiling people is fairly well developed:) And more importantly what they want to see.

Anyone can implement a simple version of this. Just assume that anybody entering the site using Firefox is a big old geek! :P and what do geeks like to see? Well I don’t know that, but you’re already half way there.

OK, you got my attention now. I’ll bite. Let me guess:

    1) Safari – show them Steve Jobs and users will dry hump whatever image he’s associated with. Pavlov all over again.
    2) Firefox – These people don’t click on ads. Insert sneaky javascript so that you click ads for them.
    3) Internet Explorer 8 – Obviously a web designer. A stripey banner will do.
    4) Internet Explorer 7 – They probably came from Live.com. I’ve got a bridge to sell them
    5) Internet Explorer 6 – Install malware on their system. Sitting ducks.
    6) KMeleon – Redirect to a porn site. Only way these folks are going to see a v****a.
