Those daft domain people

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

So I was a lucky and a clever person 5 to 10 years ago and I bought loads of good generic domain names, but not the great domains that can easily be sold. Recently there have been some great domain name sales but alas my domain names have not sold, so I park my domains at parking companies like sedo and make a pitance from my type in visitors.

For every dollar sedo get from google and yahoo, I get 50%. So for every 100 visitors I get as “type in” traffic only 5-10% of it ever clicks on those really bad adverts. Lets assume google are making $1 per visitor.

I have 100 visitors, 10 click on an advert, google make $10, sedo get $5, hence I get $2.50.

So 100 targetted visitors makes me $2.50 or 2.5 cents per visitor.

Why has no one come out with a clever domain parking system, it’s not that hard to do.

Let me point my quaility domain to your servers, then let me pick a template, pick some functions I want on the site, such as:

  • news
  • free articles
  • a cms so I can add my own content
  • ability to add adsense code
  • ability to add in ebay and amazon feeds
  • royalty free images
  • contectual ads from comission junction

Now I have a system that allows me to build real sites, get links and make money. Ultimately making my domain much more interesting to a future buyer.

Why don’t the domain parking companes wish to do this?

They better watch out because 2 small scale players I know of are starting to do it. Check out:

The perfect tools are out there. It’s called HTML. You do something called “making a website” and voila! Revenue potential on a plate!

Agreed Diane, but most domain people own thousands and thousands of domains names and the time and cost involved is not practical…it needs to be a system

the market is being saturated with basic parking companies. Domain Parking, iModo from what i can see will be the more talked about with the new features coming as they are UK owned and know what UK domainers are wanting.
