bearing in mind there’s not a single documented case of one ever saving a life then yup, some american planes just have floating seat cushions as it is.
I’m sure most UK flyers would be horrified to not have life jackets. I expect cheapo airlines like easyjet and ryan air will be fitting carbon fibre seats without any padding before long, I guess as the fuel prices continue to rise being able to save weight will become ever more important.
In another 20 years it’ll be like flying in military with everything stripped away that can be unless we’ve got coconut oil powering jets by then lol
