Recent quote from the Financial Times

Google is to privacy and respect for intellectual property rights what the Taliban are to women’s rights and civil liberties: a daunting threat that must be fought relentlessly by all those who value privacy and the right to exercise, within the limits of the law, control over the uses made by others of their intellectual property. The internet search engine company should be regulated rigorously, defanged and if necessary, broken up or put out of business. It would not be missed.

Better spend more time on keyword research

A great peice of info over at grokdotcom made me start thinking. Simply in 2005 you can rank any where on the page in Google and get traffic, in 2008 you need to be at the top. As can be seen on the graph below:

Now the chances of ranking for cheap flights :) are probably not going to happen, however hard we try. So people need to do better keyword research and rank at the top for the terms that they stand a chance of ranking for. It’s a game of using your resources where they will most effective. No point in getting links for terms you aren’t going to be very near the top for.

So great times for individual seo’s and bad for large brands. Large brands have to satisfy their shareholders and rank for the big vanity terms, hence competing more and more against each other. So they have larger seo teams, bigger seo consultancy bills and they are all going after the same terms and so leaving it wideopen for everyone else to pickup the rest.

We also would love to be number 1 for car hire but alas our resources are better used elsewhere.

Share your data with google and let them use it against you

So following on from this post:

http://www.asapventures.co.uk/blog/google-to-launch-comparator.html

So ppc clients give google conversion data, Google work out where the cash is and then build comparators/competitors in that sector:)

Lets be honest and not hide behind the legal rubbish, that just feels wrong.

Google – do no evil was a term they once used – it has got to be time to change that one guys.

Google’s legal battle with Viacom over allegations of copyright infringement have resulted in a US court ruling that the viewing logs of individuals will be handed over to Viacom The viewing logs will contain the log-in ID of users, the computer IP address (online identifier) and video clip details.

Google does not want to do comparison engines

The implications of Google to do comparators are are huge, but are they detrimental to Google.

Their original business model was a platform based on ad revenue, now they have to deliver results and they will be tracked as a cpa channel.

The issues are simply that many of the smaller interesting companies with good product offerings do not have the tech abilities to manage their feeds. If google deceide to get into this industry they may find they have a huge amount of tech staff monitoring each of their partners, especially if these partners have products that are changing in real time…we know:) as many of our travel partners are constantly have feed problems.

Lead generation business is not so much an issue as Google are not dependent up data feeds from 3rd party suppliers.
