Alphabet is the new name for the holding company where 98% of revenue comes from the company called Google that sells ad space.
Why would you do that???
Makes life easier for the accountants to understand
Makes the monopoly people think you do lots of stuff
Makes people feel they work for a more sexy company than a one that sells adds
